Tech-Science Blog

          Today, in science, we did part two of the teddy bears fight pollution lab. Everyone used the same test results to make a line graph on how many healthy bears had survived. After our color coded line graphs were finished, we answered questions about the data. In tech lab, we learned about different career choices and play acouple of games that show you some types of jobs. Also, we did a couple of websites that either help pick out a good job or find out how much salary you need. I needed about $6,535.10.

Mockingjay

   "If we burn, you burn with us!", the screen blares out. Mockingjay is the last book in the Hunger games series, and Katniss is held in Thirteen. Apperantly Thirteen has built a complex society under the ground with  advanced technology. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol and being tortured, while a rebel army forms with Katniss as the spark to their fire.When Plutarch sends a group of fighters to rescue Peeta, Katniss waits for them to return. Once, they return she finds that he has been hijacked. Since all the rebels have turned against the Capitol, K atniss is no longer needed, but she insists on going to the Capitol to assinate president Snow. Many traps are still laid put for them though. Will she be able to defeat Snow, or be killed in the process?

Catching Fire

State Competition

This may be a little late, but two weekends ago my twirling team won state for the third time in a row.
I had a whole lot of fun doing the routine, and for one of them I did a no-drop! We had wins in marching and presentation, too. Now it is western regionals to work on.

Thursday Science

Today in science lab, we learned about how pollution can affect wildlife. By using rubber bears to help us understand, we played a game that lasted for twenty generations of bears. First, we took ten red bears (healthy bears) and two blue ones (contamination), and added them in to a tub. My group would pull out two pairs of bears and count how many weren't contaminated from pollution. Then we would add cubs cubs to each pair and the process would start over for five generations. After five generations, the pollutants would become even worse and the bears slowly started dying off. On the twentieth year, every bear was extinct.

Thursday blog

     Today in Tech lab we got to choose which game we wanted to play. My friends and I played Launchball. Lanchball is a series of challenges to get a ball in to a goal. It simulates the mind since I place special tools to guide the ball towards the goal. Some examples of the tools are: conveyor belts, batteries, copper, fans, magnets, and springs. Some of the games had a some sort of a challenge you had to surmount. Others were really easy.

Thursday Tech

In Tech lab today we went to BBC school two so we could practice some skills from school. Instead of Math like last week though, we focused on English and science. We would play the game and then do the quiz. Mainly I stayed on the English games, where I learned and reveiwed how to organize a report and use better vocabulary. Then I flipped over to science and did a sound game. That is what Tech lab was about.

Today in tech lab we used the same website as last week, only we did different activities on it. This time, it was about angles, measures, 2D shapes, and 3D shapes. Using interactive games, we solved different questions having to do with the topic. Then, after the game, we would take a quiz consisting of ten questions on the topic. I found out that I need to work on 3D shapes, more than everything else.

The tech blog

   What I learned (reviewed) in Tech lab was about mean, median, and mode. This even relates to what we are doing in class! I needed a little bit of work on median, and I got a little lesson on it yesterday. We even got to start on probability.These skills help people later in life with scores of twirlers doing their solos'. Also,

The Weekly Blog

   Today in computer lab (tech lab) we played a virtual game called WFP. WFP is a game that sort of teaches people about the simulations that real people actually do. Some of the games you play, can be really tricky, but others are so simple you just have to follow the direction. There was about six games in total and each one of them was timed. The first game is where the player has to locate all of the stranded people, who have no food. The second you have to find the right amount of food for a nutricious meal. Third, you drop food into red ranges to get people their food. Next, you buy enough food to last about six months. Fifth, the player has to manuever the cars to deliver the food. I never made it to the last level though.In the end, I didn't know that it was actually real. That real suprised me!

The Tech blog

          Today in Tech lab, Mr. Jost showed us a video about a really small computer, that just came out. It was only a microchip sort of computer, that you would plug in the computer, the mouse and keyboard, and a cell phone charger for energy. After the video, we visited BBC- KS3 Bitesize Maths, to practice our math skills. Sumanjit and I worked together and did some frations, integers, 3-D shapes, perimeter, and area. Each section was a revision, an activity, and a test. I passed almost all the tests, except on one I missed one and almost two. The last ten minutes of Tech lab, we went on a website that teaches math in games. I got to refresh some of the math skills in Tech lab, that I needed to work on.

Tech Lab

On Thursday, March 15th, we visited a few sites that are related to learning. Mr. Jost showed us some of the websites and explained what kind of subject or subjects each of them taught.One of the places was Khan Academy!!! Then, Mr.Jost  let us go to any of the websites he showed us. A couple friends and I, went to a website called Wonderopolis. Wonderopolis had a bunch of videos, that would teach you about that topic. I watched a couple, but one sounded really interesting to me. The title of it was "Can you grow candy corn?"  It really wasn't that interesting of a video though. We learned a lot in computer lab by looking at different learning websites.

The Titan's Curse

      Percy Jackson and the Olympans: The Titan's Curse, by Rick Riordan, is the third book in the series. The book shows a lot of Greek mythology, as in the other two books. Percy Jackson, is yet again about to get the adventure of his lifetime... in the middle of the winter!  He is on an assignment for a couple half-bloods at a military school. The two half-bloods are Bianca di and Niko Caprio. Then, a manticore just happens to be the general of the school, and Percy gets in big trouble. Luckily the Hunters(a team of Artemis's army) came and saved the day. The story leads the half-blood warriors on a long journey to San Fransisco in search of Annebeth who mysteriously disappears. Unfortunately, many obstacles stand in their way. It all comes down to one last battle between Atlas, a very powerful titan, and Zoe Nightshade. This book was very interesting with a few twists you might not get at first!

One Crazy Summer

                 "I'm Cecile Johnson and these are mine," Delphine and her sisters heard the women claim.Yet somehow Delphine knew she was their mother. One Crazy Summer, by Rita Willams-Garcia is the story of three young girls looking for their mother. Their mother left them when she couldn't name Fern, Afua. Delphine lives in New York, with her sisters, Voneta and Fern. To meet their mother they travel to Oakland, California. When the three sisters get there, things aren't what they would expect. They ate take-out every night, went to the community center for breakfast, and went to Black Panther summer school. Most importantly, its horrible not having a mother who cares for you, and says she didn't want to have them at all. Then in the middle of the book, comes Cecile's arrest, finding out she is called Nzilla , and a rally supporting the Black Panthers. In the end, Cecile becomes more like a mother to them on the last day that they spent there,before going home, without her. I liked this book, since it included real facts mixed in with the fiction.

Percy Jackson #2

The cave was dark and grungy with the smell of sheep everywhere. Where was Grover? Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan is about Percy Jackson’s second adventure to rescue his friend Grover and the Golden Fleece from the Cyclops, Polyphemus. Unfortunately, to get there Percy and his friend Annebeth must cross the Sea of Monsters. Many tricks are prepared by Circe, the Sirens, and the Cyclops to stop them from completing their quest.  Percy and Annebeth have to think of lots of schemes to get themselves out alive.  This book is great, since on every page there is a whole new story!!!

How will Noah get him out?Flush by Carl Hiassen is about two kids (brother and sister), who are trying to claim that their father isn't crazy by sinking a man named Dusty's boat. They get a bit of help from Shelly, who works on the casino boat. All of them think of a plan to show that Dusty really was pumping out human waste into the ocean. In the end their plan works and fuschia food die shows the waste in the ocean. I loved this book, since it showed a lot of evil plotting and fun!!!
